ICT operation and student’s learning

As a director of a childcare and working within the industry for 13 years I have been apart of and watched children develop from the ages of 6 weeks old until they head off to Prep. During this learning and development stage it still continues to blow me away on how children are like sponges and absorb anything and everything that they see and do. I have 2 and 3 years using Ipads without any guidance from the educators and my Kindergarten children using portable computer to use learning programs to enhance their numeracy and literacy skills and showing me how to use the devices. This is a little scary but it is reality, we need to prepare, educate and provide ICT opportunities from a young age to ensure that they are equipped for what’s ahead in their future. I have read and used this article New London Group in a previous course which outlines the specific need for students to be ICT literate.

I have been working in the childcare industry for 13 years and have decided to take the next step into Primary Education. I work full time as a Director of a Childcare centre and study externally part time. I have been living in Brisbane for 5 years now and previously residing in Cairns, Far North Queensland. I enjoy keeping fit and healthy, chilling out by the beach and taking some time out for myself when I can.
